Introduction

1.National Museum of Taiwan Literature/ Friendly and Diverse Community Learning Resource Boxes for Taiwanese Literature

-The National Museum of Taiwan Literature (NMTL) is a designated demonstration site for people with hearing impairment by the Ministry of Culture. In 2018, the Museum developed resource boxes for three visitor groups: the visually impaired, visitors with hearing impairment, and children. This allowed the contents of Taiwan literature to be brought onto the campus or into social welfare groups for educational purposes. The resource boxes connect the narratives of Taiwan literature with one’s five senses, forming emotional association between participants and Taiwan’s collective memories. The resource boxes establish basic knowledge in participants and promote Taiwan literature in the process, thereby increasing the public’s interest in joining NMTL’s events in future. 2.Taipei Fine Arts Museum / The Art Museum's "Assistive Teaching Tools" Case

-The presenter will discuss cases of cultural accessibility service from Taipei Fine Arts Museum (TFAM) and Taipei Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA). MOCA has made tactile graphics for the visually impaired, using the differences in materials to create depth of field and conveying the visual sense by touch to recreate classic photographs. TFAM runs “an afternoon devoted to acoustic delights,” a regular sign language guided tour, and provides teaching aids that give participants an interactive experience. Cultural institutions with short exhibition periods or lack permanent exhibitions can take advantage of the opportunity to exchange ideas with the presenter.

3.Taiwan Painting Talk Association/ Art Education Therapy Programs for People with Disabilities

-For many years, Taiwan Painting Talk Association has promoted art education therapy in Taiwan. Apart from using suitable sensory aids to assist people with disabilities to participate in art creativities and exhibitions, their works have been used to develop cultural and creative products, and are even featured in creative markets; this has helped people with disabilities to re-discover their social interaction skills and gain economic autonomy. How can people with cerebral palsy, autism, brain injury, learning difficulties, schizophrenia, muscular dystrophy and polio collaborate, share and prosper? Come and talk to teacher Tsai.

4.Novart Inc. / 3D Printing Visual Aids for Museums

-As 3D printing becomes universal, the threshold has also dropped for people interested in accessing the technology. Many have wondered about the application of 3D printing in cultural accessibility. Novart Inc. cites case studies that make use of tactile sensory aids for the visually impaired to explore the features, capabilities and restrictions of 3D printing, the effects of different machines and the basic steps, schedule and budget for 3D printing of such aids. Cultural organizations that are thinking about including 3D printing in their operation can join us and learn about planning and executing 3D printing projects.

5.National Tainan Living Arts Center / The Access Service of Township History Hall in National Tainan Living Art Center

-How can existing exhibition space be improved to provide accessibility? National Tainan Living Arts Center will discuss its “Permanent Hands-on Exhibition Area for the Disabled in the Township History Hall” as an example. The Center applied barrier-free design concept as much as possible in its infrastructure planning. As for regular services for the visually impaired, audio description of representative themes from the exhibited cultural relics are delivered by docents trained over a long period; the audio description program is complemented with interactively operated 3D printed aids and other tactile aids. These services also allow children and other visitors to enjoy a multi-sensory tour experience.

6.AND FUN lab./ Non-visual Art Creation Experience Project Sharing
Presenter: Mr. Sih-Yu Lin, Founder, AND FUN lab.
-As part of its non-visual art creative experience program, AND FUN Lab integrates arts case utilization in an interdisciplinary manner. With art creativity as the basis for expression, art museums, artists and their works can be expanded to contain a variety of themes, tropes, media, and applications. This gives rise to creative media for autonomous exploratory learning by visually impaired students. How can all visitor groups find the help they need to tap into their creativity and explore their multi-dimensional artistic expression? Come and share your thoughts with AND Fun Lab.
